Exercise and movement is one of the key focuses in the leisure and lifestyle program where residents work closely with our team of qualified professionals to improve strength and mobility.
They say that as soon as you feel too old to do a thing, do it. For many residents at Burpengary Manor, this saying couldn’t be more true. With walking groups, indoor bowling, bocce, and many more activities, there is no time for residents to feel old.
Morning movement group is a popular class among residents encouraging strength and balance exercises with lots of chatter and laughter among friends. For resident Colin, attending regular exercise classes means he can maintain his physical fitness and improve his social, emotional, and mental health. Colin attends individual therapy regularly which allows him to use the peddling machine to improve his mobility and maintain leg strength.
Exercise has always been a big part of Colin’s life. He says, ‘I always enjoyed water skiing, playing squash, outdoor bowls, tennis in my younger years and bushwalking on my travels’. Working as a team leader for a shipping goods company, Burns Philip Ltd in Papua New Guinea, Colin always preferred to walk to various destinations rather than drive. When he moved to Burpengary Manor it was very important to him to be able to continue with some form of exercise.
His favourite form of movement is walking and he enjoys early morning strolls in the garden observing the birds and saying good morning to fellow residents and staff he sees along the way. He also loves to participate in a bit of cheeky banter and friendly competition with fellow residents in bocce. There is also a walking group in the afternoon twice a week allowing Colin and other residents to walk and talk in the gardens. Ending up at the café hub, for a cup of tea or coffee, is the perfect reward for this active group, not to mention an opportunity to catch up on all the gossip at Burpengary Manor.
