Meet our Physio Assistant, Jade

On Aged Care Employee Day, get to know a cherished member of our healthcare team.

On this special occasion of Aged Care Employee Day, we celebrate Australia’s residential, home and community aged care workers. This year’s theme #ThanksForCaring recognises everyone involved in caring for older Australians. This year, we asked our wonderful Physio Assistant, Jade Greenfield, to share her aged care journey and what working at Burpengary Manor Aged Care means to her.

What made you want to pursue a career in the aged care sector?

The idea of making a real difference in people's lives has always been a driving force for me. The aged care sector offered a perfect avenue to pursue this passion. It allows me to connect with older adults and contribute to their well-being in a meaningful way.

Sure, the variety of roles, the supportive and diverse team environment, and the stable job market were all attractive aspects. However, the true calling card for me was the potential to have a positive impact and give back to my community. It's incredibly fulfilling to know that my work directly improves the lives of others.

What do you like most about your role and working at the home?

The ever-changing nature of the work keeps things exciting – every day brings a new set of challenges. But for me the true reward lies in the faces I see each day. Whether it's a warm smile from a resident after morning exercise class or a friendly chat with a colleague, connecting with people daily brings a joy that's hard to describe.

The days are undeniably busy, but that feeling of fulfilment at the end – knowing I've made a difference, even if only small–makes it all worthwhile.

What is most challenging about working in aged care?

While caring for those in their golden years is a true privilege, being entrusted with their well-being and care comes with its own set of challenges. Perhaps the most difficult aspect for me is facing the goodbyes – moments I prefer to view as "see you laters" on a shared journey.

What is a special memory you have from working at the home?

Picking just one favourite moment is incredibly hard! From sharing a cup of tea and warm conversation out in the gardens with residents to the amazing, themed events organized by the lifestyle team – I cherish them all. (Speaking of events, I can't resist a good dress-up opportunity! This Easter, I waddled around in a giant inflatable bunny suit, hopping from room to room and spreading Easter cheer with my fellow colleges. The smiles on everyone's faces were truly priceless and certainly a special memory I won’t forget!)
